Back in 2019, Chris and I were both assistant professors of civil engineering and worked on computer modeling of ice fracture, so it was only a matter of time that we crossed each others paths. Although I never met Chris in person, we had several Zoom calls. In our first Zoom call, we instantly clicked and became collaborators and friends. He is a brilliant mind with many skills, and we quickly narrowed on a research idea. We collaborated on a NASA proposal and an ARO white paper together and we were ready to start work on a research paper. Then I get that shocking email from him saying that he is heading to Colorado for surgery and so he cannot work on the paper for at least the next few months. Months turned to years, and we never could get back to working on it. It is a great loss to ice fracture and broader glaciology community to bid farewell to such a brilliant and wonderful person. Chris, you will be remembered forever through your impactful papers on ice damage. Rest in peace, dear friend.
