I shared an office with Chris (and Jed) in the Geography Department at UBC for a couple of years. We shared the comraderie of being office mates, grad student cohort hijinx, Vancouver critical mass bike rides, and backcountry skiing. Chris was freaking brilliant as his resume and papers read, but more importantly he was a great human and his sense of humor and laugh were infectious and memorable. I'll always remember his laugh. Chris was a good friend during those times, when I needed one. As people often do, we lost touch after I left Vancouver, but I consider him a kindred spirit given our shared early April birthdays, Colorado roots, and love of mountains, ice, adventure, science, telemark skiing in the backcountry and microbrews. I'll be moving to Montana in 2024 and sad he won't be there to visit or go downhill skiing with. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to his family. I absolutely agree he was one of the best!
